Here cost is the total amount spent on advertising.

Impressions is the total number of time ad unit was viewed.

For example, If you spent $10 as cost and you got 10000 impressions, your cpm is calculated as below

  	Cost Per Mille (CPM) = 1000 * (10 / 10000)
                         = 1000 * 0.001
                         = 1
                    CPM  = $1
  

So your cpm or cost per mille is $1.
